Procrastination can be fun...

Was it Erma Bombeck or Ann Landers who use to say "slap me with a wet noodle" when she was in trouble? Anyway, my blog neglect is certainly causing trouble for some and a little for me.

Mostly it's that little voice in my head that says I want to share something with you readers but then there's something else to do; play tennis or golf, do laundry or shop and what about those Council meetings? There's just not enough time to do all the wonderful things that fill our lives.

I have a confession. I'm a software junkie. I love to search for and download and test all kinds of software. Several years ago I wrote a database program for a Title I school district to track student assessments over the years. It was challenging but fun ...like crossword puzzles...(from he**)

I have this fantasy that there is a program out there that will manage my life and keep me organized and productive. Oh, and record my blood pressure and Dr. visits too. There are a lot of good productivity tools out there. Using the tools(software) is so cool! I can plan and create and evaluate and be productive...well maybe not so much. It's the doing the stuff on my list that seems to be a problem.

Why am I telling you this? Because I've unsubscribed from my software testing lists to have more time for blogging. This doesn't mean I'll quit my habit but I just won't get distracted by it every day. LOL!

Here are two you might enjoy; www.giveawayoftheday.com and www.bitsdujour.com

And here's a link to software I'm testing right now and really enjoying; www.gemx.com

I love the graphics and all of the modules of the doOrganizer. Be sure and check out the MindMapper module. A lot of creative teams use mind mapping for projects nowadays. Visual mapping is easier to understand(hence those nifty McDonald's cash registers with pictures on them).

We'll get back to serious discussions soon...and I don't know where Claire's blog is. Maybe it is being redesigned(that's on my list too)

Did Tom resign from the city bulletin and your blog? It seems he's dropped off! I hope not.A voice of reason and common sense is a rare commodity on local blogs.

@anon1: I'm pretty sure Tom's still around. I haven't talked to him but I'm sure he's pretty busy too. I agree with your assessment.

@anon2: I don't know any details on the issue you are talking about. It doesn't hurt to ask though - there might be a perfectly legitimate explanation.

Hi Gayle,Do you know any of the answers to these questions? How can the senior center(501c3) apply for and receive grant money, when they don't have a legal active board? How can they give away $15k of fireworks money to a nonprofit school? Where are the minutes of the last 5 years? I may be wrong but I don't believe the city of Fillmore along with the city manager and the city fianance director should be running the seinor center. What do you think?

Dear @ anons: Okay, here a some answers to your questions...keep them coming.

1. It is legal for a relative or employee or any citizen from the City to apply for first time homebuyer assistance. I guess that's what Sean Payne did in 1994. Legal? Yes. Was this an unfair advantage? Maybe. I do not have any details or knowledge of the transaction.

2. Evidently there are still three active members of the Sr. Board. So any grants would be legitimate.

3. I don't know who got the revenue share for the fireworks, but they earned the $15,000. If you have ever worked in those booths, you know that it is hot, hard work. So, the Board must have approved the revenue share because there were not enough Srs. up to the task. After last week's meeting, they may have enough volunteers to man/woman the booth so the Srs. can keep all of their fireworks revenue. I've asked to be put on the list to work in the booth. Please call Annette Cardona(524-3701) if you are willing to volunteer.

4. The Board minutes are available at the City. I will follow up and see if we can get them posted on the City's website.

5. If the City Manager and Finance Director are "running" the Sr. Center, that is because the Board has decided they need that support. They are seeking new board members, so submit your application if you are interested. The City does provide administrative/finance duties to the Sr. Center. When the new Board is seated, they will have the opportunity and support from the community to decide how the Sr. Center should be run.

I was at the meeting last Monday and I have to say I was very encouraged by the level of attendance and interest from the community. There were a lot of great ideas presented and even offers of fund raising activities!

The next meeting will be on Monday, June 2nd at 10:00 AM. I hope you can make it.
