Crude Oil is $127/BBL...yikes!

If you've heard me speak about our sewer plant, you know that one of my biggest concerns is the extremely high amount of energy that it will use(when Bert Rapp and I first had this conversation in 2006, oil was about $62/BBL). The Micromedia and Vertreat options could have provided Title 22 water quality with a much lower energy use - but - the Council had no will to change the direction we were headed(I won't even bring up PERC). What will this mean to us in the next 5 - 10 years and beyond? I understand the value of enhanced treatment and recycling water, but what if energy turns out to be in shorter supply than water?

Anyway, back to the subject, here is a Washington Post article by author, James Howard Kunstler, discussing "Peak Oil"...

"the truth is that no combination of solar, wind and nuclear power, ethanol, biodiesel, tar sands and used French-fry oil will allow us to power Wal-Mart, Disney World and the interstate highway system -- or even a fraction of these things -- in the future...

...So what are intelligent responses to our predicament? First, we'll have to dramatically reorganize the everyday activities of American life. We'll have to grow our food closer to home, in a manner that will require more human attention. In fact, agriculture needs to return to the center of economic life. We'll have to restore local economic networks -- the very networks that the big-box stores systematically destroyed -- made of fine-grained layers of wholesalers, middlemen and retailers...

...We'll also have to occupy the landscape differently, in traditional towns, villages and small cities. Our giant metroplexes are not going to make it, and the successful places will be ones that encourage local farming."

I blame George W. Bush, and Vice President Cheney.Do you happen to remember that little secret, hidden meeting these elected officials and oil executives had at the White House in 2001 to discuss energy policy? It was a secret,no releasing of documents.A coincidence? I think not. What we are seeing today till throughout December is the Bush/Cheney grand finale!$10 bucks a gallon coming our way!

It's funny how everyone in this nation and the world does nothing to thwart the rising cost of gas prices. It seems odd to me how gas can go from 2.19 to 2.59, then lower to 2.36...Then 1/2 a season later, it goes up to 2.89, then down to 2.54. Suddenly it skyrockets to over 3.00 a gallon, and has done NOTHING but continue to go up week by week, now to 4.69, with no signs of stopping. How the (bleep) are they getting away with this? I'm surprised there hasn't been an uprising, or even riots yet. These (bleeping) billionaires wipe their (bleeps) with C-Notes while Ali Baba and his 40 theives bend you over and take you for $5.00 a gallon. (Bleeping) bullshit. You're telling me some piece of (bleep) 3rd world country can build oil refineries, and drill all they want, where they want, while we sit here and do absolutely nothing? How does that make sense? We are supposed to be one of the most advanced, richest countries, and we cant drill our own (bleeping) oil? How many celebrities, director/producers can you count or professional atheletes that make over $50 million a year? Let's just say 200 off the top of your head. That's $10 billon dollars, a year, and your telling me thats not a start to lowering fuel costs? Little (bleep)like that irritates me so much now whenever I think about it. These people who make ridiculous amounts of money for reading a line, or swinging a piece of wood at a cloth ball. Jesus christ. Radio personalities getting paid 8 figure incomes to talk into a (bleeping) microphone. These are the only people that aren't affected by high gas prices and what it is doing to our economy. For God sakes release the electric car already...you know you have plans for several, but the oil companies are paying you off to keep it out of public reach until they pay for more and more oil. See...oil wont run out for a very very very long time. Countries that report how empty or full there reserves are fluctuate on a yearly basis. Some going from 8 billion barrels of oil one year, then 6 billion, then 3 billion, and suddenly, they are reporting 22 billion barrels from some "surprise" reserve they found nearby. (BLEEPING) BULLSHIT. Who the (bleep) really needs $50 million or more in the bank for there lifetime anyways? The greedy. Filthy greedy (bleepers) driving hummers with hawaiian shirts on smoking cigars cutting me off on the 101 by Seaward. (Bleep) yes Im lower- middle class averaging $35,000 a year and most everyone on craigslist is too. We are going to get (bleeped) over by all this stupid political bullshit. Find a way to lower gas prices. Brainstorm and think of something we can all do. This country is headed down the toilet and its taking everyone with it who doesn't care. Do you want to be paying $2-3 dollar increased fuel yearly until your flat broke? That means in 2010 gas will be around $7-8 bucks a gallon. Do you see wage going up anytime soon? All you get is a stupid ass $600 check to pay for gas, which does absolutely nothing to stimulate the economy. It only stimulates the man giving it to you from behind. Wake up people.

@ anon 9:08. I've oftened tried to picture that meeting...

Exxon CEO..."Dick, we've got to get the price of oil higher. We're tired of $28/bbl oil. What are you going to do for us?"

Cheney: "Maybe we could start a war...or...inflate the currency...give out tax credits for SUV's".

@ anon 10:06 Well, you said a mouthful there. You've got some great points.

The oil companies are setting record profits every quarter.

Our friend in Belgium is reporting that gasoline there is $11 a gallon.

I meant to say "devalue" the currency rather than inflate the currency...was that Freudian?
