Continuing Travelogue

I hope everyone is safe from the effects of the fire. I've been getting reports from friends in Fillmore and hopefully the worst danger has passed...

...One of my favorite places in Colorado is Glenwood Canyon.

The scenery is spectacular. But there is also the engineering marvel that is the double decker I-70 freeway through the narrow canyon alongside the Colorado River.

It's fantastic - and you haven't lived until you've gone through it in a white-knuckle blizzard with semis above you skidding on the ice.

**Bonus travel tip** If you ever get the chance, take the Hanging Lake exit and hike up to Hanging Lake. It's about a 40 minute uphill hike with a decent trail.

The reward is a tiny but gorgeous gem of a lake with water so clear you can count the fish 20 feet down. It's beautiful.

Go early though. Lightning storms can strike without warning from about 1:00 pm on. I've made the trip down in about 11 minutes trying to dodge hail and lightning!

Gayle is real, I've seen her on Channel 10, perhaps she will get a special basket of goodies this year. But what about Rene and Claire? Nope, not even Santa can help with deliveries!

anonymous: Glad you enjoyed the pictures but sorry to hear that the smoke is still lingering.

We have been having good air quality here in Denver. Ironically one of the reasons we went back to Fillmore was to escape the infamous "brown cloud" of Denver metro.

While LA always had polluted air Fillmore was relatively unpolluted. It's amazing how things have changed. If you've continuously lived in Fillmore, like the frog in a pot, you might not have noticed as much as you would coming and going. We really notice it at our house which is fairly close to 126. The diesel exhaust is the worst and the particulates make everything dirty - including the air.

easter bunny: I like dark chocolate!
