Catching up

Well I hope I'll have some time soon to post more topics here. The time comes at a cost though.

Unfortunately my long time, dear friend JoAnn passed away last Monday after a five month battle with cancer. I was a part of her support system during this time so am working my way through the mourning process as well as settling her affairs.

I'm not ready to talk about it too much yet but I have a lot of other topics we can discuss. This is what I'll be writing about soon;

  1. Housing market and economy
  2. Sewer plant effluent disposal
  3. Water softening plant
  4. El Dorado
  5. Fillmore air quality and traffic

What's on your list?

**News** It looks like the City will be starting a community bulletin board. This is great news and should be an opportunity for feedback on issues. It will require registration which I hope will cut down on the unseemly and childish comments we've been exposed to here. I probably should have used the registration feature long ago. But frankly, I still find it hard to believe that adults would make some of the ridiculous comments that we have seen.

Gayle,I heard the council talk of the water softening and recycle plant.Cant they hold off on that to save money? Something tells me they are ordering "parts" so it will be too late to stop when only the sewer is necessary for now.

ccu: I looked in my deleted items and don't see any comments sent by you to censure...

anon: Yes, there should be a complete review of the effluent disposal and water softening as soon as possible.

Scott Lee has asked for a special workshop so all the facts can be known to the Council and the public. I hope it happens sooner rather than later as there is the possibility that design and money sunk will be used again as an excuse not to try and save money.

If you read the IRWMP Economic Analysis you will see that the reuse and recycling at $11 million has a 1% cost benefit!

Anyone with business or economic sense knows that a project with that little benefit should never be done.

But, now what is the cost? If the plant cost now is $32 - $45 Million(it varies depending on which story is being told), that means that the other $37 - $50 Million is for the effluent disposal. So what does that do to your cost/benefit? Negative, negative, negative.

Anonymous: I hope the chloride citizens committee will be formed soon to address the additional cost of water softening and helping to remove chlorides.

There are alternatives to the expensive nanofiltration or reverse osmosis water softening projects.

I hope we will have a chance to review the options before the expense of water softening is dumped on our heads.

I urge you to contact your Council members to voice your concerns.

As far as fines and discharges, it's hard to know what's going on. I think we occasionally violate our limits on certain constituents.

In reading the minutes from previous Council meetings, I see that at one point, a few years back, we were told that the repairs had raised our capacity and brought us into compliance for BOD and other constituents.

This declaration allowed a moratorium to be lifted for more development permits. Evidently, adding the additional development caused our limits to be exceeded and now we are paying the fines for that.

anonymous 6:17 I think Helen is probably just doing her job as a manager.

She's probably not the one who sets the rents. I don't know this for a fact but it just makes sense. As a HOA president myself, I know that you do have to enforce the covenants, etc. to maintain the property.

I'm just getting educated on the El Dorado issues so I'm not ready to make too many judgements without all the facts.

These are the facts that I do know:
1. Rents do go up with each sale and annually.
2. There are a lot of units for sale right now.
3. The high rent makes it necessary to lower the sales price thus devaluing your property investment.
4. The high rents and sewer rates are a burden for many senior residents on fixed incomes.
5. The dust, pollution, traffic hazards and noise that some residents have to endure because of the traffic and HVP development and proximity to 126 have reduced the quality of life and lowered home values.

Does anyone know how or what the American Cancer Society spends all this money on?

1. Administation
2. High scale payrolls
3. Money to pharmacutical companies.

Where's the accountability? I dont mind walking laps, but I refuse to donate money when no progress on finding a cure has occured. More drugs , and more drugs is the solution. It is all a bunch of malarkey

If everyone thought the way you do, there would be no Donations for any good purpose.
Think Positive, I heard the money goes to research and different Cancer Charities to help Cancer Patients.
Think Positive, this Relay was for a good cause.

I never said it wasnt. It's called accountability and oversight.

Millions and millions of dollars are at stake. Dont be ignorant and let your emotions controll your pocketbook!!!
