Protest

I attended my first ever protest on Monday. The event was the "groundbreaking ceremony" for the new sewer plant.

There were about 15-20 of your friends and neighbors holding up signs and peacefully observing the ceremony.

Council members Cuevas and Hernandez participated in the shovel exercise. Former council members Dressler and Smedley were also in attendance. That is the extent of the city residents attending in favor of this plant. The rest of the participants were the consultants for Boyle, American Water and others who will be profiting from the venture.

Ms. Cuevas said that she was there on behalf of the "other 15,000 citizens who support the project." She wants to dismiss the many responsible, hard working and in some cases lifelong voting residents of Fillmore who are giving up so much of their time and energy to help the city come up with a cost effective solution - for FREE. If you are opposed to this expensive endeavor that will drain the economic resources of our community for the next 40 years you don't matter.

That's very sad. It's such an eye opener for me. When I started going to City Council meetings about a year ago, it was with the wide-eyed idea that our City government wanted citizen input and involvement. That they wanted to bring all voices to the table and work on solutions to the problems and issues that we face as a community. I was willing to offer support and organize more volunteers on behalf of the city. Isn't that what every city wants?

Do the math -

According to the Sun, Cuevas claims there are 15,000 people in Fillmore. Mr. Creason said there were 16 protesters, the Sun claims 12 to 15. You claim 15 to 20. Is someone exaggerating or numerically challenged?

Anyway you cut it and giving you the benefit of the doubt with 20 protesters in attendance that amounts to a whopping .13%, or 13 percent of 1 percent of the population of Fillmore. It would seem the protesters were something less than a minority.

However on the positive side, the math indicates 99.87 percent of the people know more and understand the issue better than the protesters. What a great city we live in.

Gayle, I hardly consider that ruining a photo opportunity and acting foolish in front of local dignitaries the same as a peaceful observance of a ceremony. Show some class and maybe people will take you and followers seriously someday.

Cuevas said she was there on behalf
of 15,000 residents that support this private gold mine.Silly girl,
when the votes come in we will see
how 5,400 people feel about that.

Its a bad sign that only 3 people
leaked out of Sewer Hall for groundbreaking.

That is not true.
The people here do not support this Sewer Plant, they do not want $98.00 or more sewer bills.
I want Cuevas and Conaway "OUT".
The sooner the better for all 15,000 here in Fillmore.

Cuevas, Conaway and Hernandez do not represent the majority of the citizens in Fillmore, they represent Corporate CEO'S and Roger Campbell. Thats a slim minority. Im ashamed they people were even elected to represent the citizens.

Bobble heads eventually fall apart and become clutter! Watch out!
