Catching up
Boy, there is so much happening around town that it's hard to know what to pick to write about.
I'd love to be able to sit down and bring you all up to date on sewer plant issues but that would take days. Just know that the Santa Paula Vertreat presentations were excellent. The Vertreat system is a very viable and economical solution to Fillmore and Santa Paula's wastewater treatment. As far as some of the comments that you have heard that it is "illogical", be sure and ask what that means. The only answer I can get is that the biofiltration for nitrification/denitrification is too expensive. However, I'm not hearing that from Jeff Guild of Noram Engineering and Constructors. More on this later.
Right now, the top story is that Ray Dressler has stepped down from the City Council. Mr. Dressler has indicated that for health reasons and the amount of work involved, he can no longer fulfill his duties.
I've always thought that Mr. Dressler brought some much needed wisdom and thoughtful insight to the dais, whether I agreed with him or not.
So, what happens now? Evidently the Council has the option of appointing someone or holding a special election. The question is; who would they appoint(or is it whom?)? What are your thoughts?

Dear Gayle.
That is so true, with age comes wisdom. Being so close to November’s Election, only 3 months have past. It seems obvious Dressler knew then, that his health was an issue.Why didn’t he consider this for the 2006 Election? Seems planned to me. Is it true he wants to appoint Smedley? If so and if this happens, then this was planned.I heard they are good Friends, the Dressler’s were in Smedley’s re-election committee. Rumor has it; if Smedley lost November 2006 Election, Dressler would step down and appoint Smedley. That way Smedley won no matter what.
To only be fair, our Community deserves an Election.
This would avoid any improprieties.
I would bet it will be the next in line with the most votes from the city council election.

An Election seems to be an appropriate solution.
Something smells fishy; being the fact that we just had an Election.
I am sure Mr. Dressler had some intuition of his health for some time.
He is an older gentleman; it is a petty he didn’t step down in time for last
November’s Election.
I do agree with Heart Broken Voter.
An Election would avoid any improprieties.
Money for an Election is ear marked only for an Election.
I know our City has that in the budget and can only spend it for an Election.
So there really is not an issue of cost.
The City can’t spend this ear marked money on nothing but an Election.

The Registered Voters here in Fillmore have the right to either vote him back in or have an option.
Mr. Sipes is a well known Businessman, knowledgeable and an Excellent Candidate.
Also it would be great to see Gayle Washburn on the Ballot again.
Gayle you have spent so much time researching the different Sewer Plants, unlike other officials here in Fillmore. You have been appointed on the APCD Advisory Board.
You have a vested interest in our Community.

Didn’t we just have an election? Isn’t an election the voice of the people? If there were 3 openings on the council, wouldn’t’ Smedley have one of them? Don’t seem to hard to me to figure out what to do.

Why should Mr. Dressler make the decision who his replacement should be. Never heard of that happening before. I would like to see it sent back to the voters. If Mr. Smedley wins then so be it, at least we had a say in the matter.
It's ironic that all of you scream conspiracy. The most logically and fiscally solution would be to appoint the person next in line from the November elections. We rant and rave about the cost of our sewer plant and you people want to have a special election, that would cost the city what you are saying $83000.00.
Well that kind of monies should go to lowering our sewer bills instead. If it were some else next in line and we all know who, you can bet you last dollar they would not be screaming a special election. Talk about hypocrisy.

rumors about Sipes and Smedley getting in are just that....Rumors. When will the people in Fillmore learn to rely on facts rather than mere speculation?

Mayor Conaway does not represent all the people in Fillmore , therefore his statement in regards to Gayle Washburn, is out of line and again goes back to the divisive , polarizing politics that Conaway , Campbell, Uber and Smedley engage in to hinder the community. I do hope all people will remember Conaway's comments and not return him back to the council in 2008.
Whats wrong with Cuevas? Is she affraid of Conaway? Flimsy spine I might add. As far as Laurie Hernandez is concerned, well I expect nothing less . She is there it be a rubber stamp and nothing more.
