New Link

There's a new link for you over on the side bar. You may be familiar with the Los Osos story.

We've been told that they rebelled over their sewer plant, recalled the board responsible then stopped the construction.

Then there were lawsuits, liens, etc.

Maybe you should read about it. There's plenty of information out there about the situation. Here are a couple of articles

Anon, you are just hysterical. How is Gayle (corrected spelling) "Confusing and Manipulative"? Gayle's research is easy to interpret and if you actually research it and look at it with an openmind then you might actually learn something besides relying on the same ole CITY LINGO. So anon, take a deep breath, walk down to Starbucks Coffee and relax . We value your opinion , not your yelling !

Gayle,

The Fillmore Hawks do appreciate all the time and effort you have put forth on finding a solution for our sewer troubles. The Fillmore Hawks have been working on other projects that will better our community. Starting in May, we will be donating our time by adopting a highway.

Gayle,

Where's the beef?

I agree with some of the sentiment expressed by anon 12:21 & 3:18 that most of the "data" or “facts” presented on this blog have as much credibility as a grocery store check-out stand tabloid. To date it’s been long on rhetoric, short of facts. Where is the beef?

Condemning a major corporation in an attempt to discredit facts is a real stretch. I’m waiting for Gracy to tie in American Water with the second shooter on the grassy knoll. Maybe they are accountable for global warming too.

Where were all the “concerned citizens” during the 4 years of research and due diligence that has gone into the search for the best long-term solution for our sewer issues? What do you think the cost of your “born again” interest in all things city will be to everyone else? Millions of dollars isn’t out of the question.

If there is a less expensive solution to our LONG term wastewater issues, we need to evaluate it. But we have to balance cost between what we know and what we don’t know.

Anon 10:04PM,
The beef got ate up, you swallowed it with some 100 proof.

Where is the research??
The contract has been signed before the EIR is Certified. Yes to my knowledge the EIR still is not Certified. Also other steps for Public Notice were avoided. Workshops were set up after the fact. Why?
Isn't that backwards?
Don’t throw in, 4 years of research where were the people.
All was silenced from the public. Terrible communication by the Council members.
The research was terrible in my point of view, one sided.

Again, why do you hide behind Anonymous? Afraid to stand up for your beliefs?
I am a strong-minded woman and I read more than most.
I am not afraid of my name, why are you?

Give it up.
You must be one lonely person to constantly demean people here that you do not agree with.

dear anonymous 10:04: If you want to challenge some data and facts you must be specific and also present your own data and cite your own resources. Just saying that my data is no good doesn't work.

As fas as where everyone has been for the four years of research and due diligence that went into this plant selection you have to remember that four years ago this plant was $24,000,000 and the "projected ultimate sewer rate" was going to be $45 per month.

That was a jump but it was reasonable for what we were getting and we were willing to take the hit.

Then in 2005 the cost was escalated $32,000,000. This was an eyebrow raiser and starting to cause some anxiety.

By late 2006 it is now $45,000,000 plus the additional $7,500,000 for $52,000,000 just for construction and engineering. A $98 per month sewer bill is no longer reasonable or economically feasible for this community.

When those bids were first opened, the City Council should have said "no thanks", we can't afford to go in this direction.

That is why we are involved now.

I went to the Vertreat presentations in Santa Paula. About 12 hours worth. Vertreat will meet our requirements for less money, less maintenance, less energy and less time to build. But the will to save the community's tax dollars has to be there.

other: Sorry but sometimes I get busy and don't have time to publish your posts. They'll get there eventually. I'll be back blogging soon enough.

Great response, 11:47PM.
Figures do not lie.
Information does not lie.

I will see you Saturday at the Rally. I do hope I see most of the Citizens of Fillmore also.

We all need to Unite and be
"Heard".

Why do you think the SP Council voted to go ahead with the MBR plan instead of vertreat if it will meet their requirements? It claims to be cheaper so why would they not want to go that route? Do you think they might have some very serious concerns about the viability of vertreat? Maybe they know something we don’t. Perhaps it is not everything it is cracked up to be.

CAN YOU CATER TO THIS REQUEST? OR WILL OUR TOWN HAVE TO CONTINUE TO LISTEN TO THIS DRAMATIC PRESCHOOL MELODRAMA?

ARE YOU LISTENING?

Anon 2:04PM and Anon 11:32AM

Your comments are right on, but they want someone to listen to them, even if they ask the same questions from meeting to meeting and get the same answers. Then they claim that no one is listening to them because don’t change! Isn’t time to play a different tune?

The other interesting thing is that the hard core of this group wants us to believe they can’t AFFORD the high rates. Or is it simply they don’t WANT to pay?

Before you burn me at the stake, we do have people in the community who truly can’t afford the projected rate increases and we need to make every effort to assist them. I believe the city and others have lobbied for assistance for these folks. I commend their efforts. The fact is that not much can be done without outside funding.

I would suggest a march on Sacramento with torches, pitchforks and clubs but that would probably be a violation of the Patriot Act.

anon 7:16. The Santa Paula decision was clearly political and would likely split the same way here. The newer members who evaluated the options knew that Vertreat would save millions of taxpayer dollars and fought valiantly for approval.

If you had been there, you would have seen and heard that the system and Noram Engineering are perfect for Santa Paula and Fillmore.

anon 6:08: I'm not sure which question you are referring to since you usually generalize without any thought, but just be aware that sometimes the point is to make sure that the public understands the issue clearly.

Have you noticed how the story and the rationalization continue to evolve?

We were told for a long time that it was all about chlorides...errr...no, it's all about Title 22...ooops...nitrification...size of the company...etc.

It's really only about two things. Is the effluent Title 22 and what is the most reasonable cost. The answer is Vertreat and unless you are willing to do the research you are not entitled to comment.

And, yes, I think our family can afford it, but that's not the point. There's some of my neighbors and friends who can't afford it. Why aren't they speaking out? Because they're working 12 hour days just to make the house payment or rent.

The bottom line is that if you are okay with close to $200 million leaving our local economy over the next 20 years when there's an alternative that could potentially save at least $30-$40 million then you have not done due diligence.

Have you seen all of the feasibility studies for HVP, North Fillmore and the Business Park? The potential economic benefits of these boondoggles are miniscule compared to the benefits of saving money on the sewer plant.

Gayle, I suggest you really ought to do some serious and indepth study of public finance. Your logic and conclusions at best are “fuzzy” and more than slightly off base.
