Whopper stopper edition

There are a lot of good comments and questions to address. I'm on my way to the airport but I hope to be able to get to them when I get back.

There are so many untruths floating about in cyberspace and mailers that they need to be addressed and dealt with.

In the meantime, what's your favorite whopper of a campaign lie or allegation?

Its ironic how the Smedley and Hernandez camps are denying any affiliation to these pacs. If these are people whom you can trust , then stick with the same corrupt system, Smedley Hernandez and McCall. Or actually vote for change . Just because someone was born and raised here doesnt mean they would be a good council member. Has anyone bothered to ask Laurie's opinion on the North Fillmore Specific Plan?
I decided to NOT VOTE for Hernandez when i saw that SHE WAS AFFILIATED WITH MICHAEL MCMAHAN AND ROGER DODGER CAMPBELL.

THAT EXPLAINS ENOUGH!

WHERE WAS LAURIE WHEN THE HEARINGS WERE TAKING PLACE? WHERE WAS LAURIE WHEN HERITAGE VALLEY DEVELOPMENT WAS BEING FORMULATED?
WHERE WAS LAURIE DURING THE FLOODS OF 2004?

I HAVE GRAVE CONCERNS ON LAURIE HERNANDEZ MORE THAN I DO ON SMEDLEY. WE KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT FROM SMEDLEY . WE CAN EXPECT ARROGANCE, LIES, ELITIST VIEWS, DISRUPTIVE BIAS AND MORE LAWSUITS. SMEDLEY AND LAURIE CAN TAKE A FLYING LEAP AS FAR AS OUR TOWN IS CONCERNED. PEOPLE PAY ATTENTION , THIS ISNT A POPULARITY CONTEST, OR A FASHION SHOW!

I found Hernandez attitude to be arrogant and would not vote for her. She did not strike me as intelligent in government matters no matter how many years she brags she's lived in Fillmore.

Though McCall seems like she could cut it, during the forum there were a few things she said which seemed like she didn't know Fillmore as well as I had hoped. But I still think she could learn easily and knows a lot about city government.

Smedley falsely accused Walker of violating the code of ethics a second time, while she was in office, which was proved to be a complete fabrication he made up so he could get her out of office at election time. And frankly I believe even city staff thinks Smedley voted no on the N. Fillmore plan in order to get re-elected.

A statement Smedley made regarding the N. Fillmore plan was that the people packing out the City Hall chambers during public hearing to ask for lower density housing don't represent the majority of Fillmore. He has to think of the people who did not come to City Hall at all and assume they are the majority because they did not show up. What kind of logic is that? most politicians assume when they are contacted on an issue the person contacting them represents at least 100 other people who didn't bother to write or call. If he's going to ignore the public then at least admit that is what you're doing. Oh yeah I forgot he did admit that when he made his comment about Ballot Box Planning.

The only thing good I can say about Smedley is he voted no on the plan and limited Cuevas' travel expense extravaganza.

I said I felt sorry for her, I didn't say I was voting for her. You're right Laurie isn't stupid but I also think her handlers pumped her so full of $&*@ in the beginning that she may have actually believed she was doing the right thing. Ah who knows, she could also be a raving she devil waiting to pounce.

anon 213 and Gracy, please the hypocracy knows no bounds, ClaireK is the exact example of what is wrong with this election, she is a hypocrit, she has no clue what is going on, and she is slanderous in statements on the character of those she has not taken the time, energy, or oppertunity to call and talk about her perspective. She is lazy and slothful, with the only intent to character attack others, thus she deserves a little of it herself. Her rights stopped the moments she started making personal attacks on others, this is quandry of the constitution, it is interesting how she towts her rights, but the problem is that they stop the moment she attacks or dissmisses another persons rights. Thus, no she does not have the right to slander, attack, or abuse another persons character at her whim, She is a HYPOCTRIC, Slothful, Bitter lady with no intention of doing anything other cuasing others harm. and that is not acceptable, and a true example of how Gayle and PAtti speak with forked tongue, as they stated they do not condone her behavior yet they will take all the help they can get. truly a hypocritical statement if there ever was one.

Today I took a jaunt down to City Hall and had a little look at every candidate's financial disclosure. This was what I found out.

I am not the only one who had done so according to staff. I have no idea who else in town did so but at least one person per week.

Smedley, had out of town donations as well as Walker. The majority of these two candidates out of town donations were from within Ventura county. Washburn only had one out of town donation from in Ventura County. The rest were from Fillmore. McCall's donations were all from Fillmore though she did not have a lot of them.

Hernandez campaign contributions were hidden because the way she filed her form was under a different type of form and so she was allowed to not state where they came from. This didn't seem right to me. Makes me want to not vote fro her all the more.

Roberts accidentally didn't file her forms correctly and must make a correction. But hers were all filled out as "Undeclared." It should not surprise us she did not know how to fill out the forms properly. Remember the newspaper fiasco?

As far as I could see the three candidates providing detailed disclosuer did not seem to receive gifts from any special interests. Though it would be difficult at this point to go into depth on finding out the sort of individuals these private party contributions came from.

There was no special PAC such as citizens for responsible growth or whatever providing a financial disclosure for advertising Patti or Gayle at all.

At 11/6/06 9:04 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

What I found out about Friends of Fillmore and their affiliate mud slinger Citizens for a Safer Fillmore was they paid for advertising promoting Hernandez and Smedley. I was told by the city this is not considered illegal because it was not a personal gift and the candidate could have been promoted without their permission. Though it is not illegal many in town have expressed to me their distaste for such PACs funding a candidate's campaign and questioned the ethics of such a thing.

I do not believe Smedley did not know about FOF promoting him. This is why. On FOF's forms there was a payment made to a firm with several partners names in it, which was the exact same name of the people who hired a survey company to call me and other Fillmore citizens asking a series of questions about peoples' voting views and what businesses and developments in town people prefer. Not only was the information used to trash Walker in a flyer right afterward but one of the questions in the survey leads directly to Smedley's door. "What do you think about El Pescador restaurant?" the very place Smedley recently had his promotional gig.

Anon 8:55.
Gayle received Contributions only from Fillmore.
Not one penney out of Fillmore.
Smedley & Hernandez received Signs and phone survey and flyers from 2 PAC's here in Fillmore. The reports are there at City Hall.

now the story goes Patti Walker brought the SOAR people into town and FOF was a backlash or defence mechanism to the out of towners from other places in Ventura County coming into Fillmore intruding on Fillmore's turf or something like that.

And Roger Campbell is the man behind FOF. Some people have no problem with him being FOF or Griffin industries being their major supporter. But the City has known it for a long time.

The city did recieve an EMAil implicating Patti being involved with attending some sort of a meeting and making some copies of some forms for some organziation or something, which I suppose was to do with a lawsuit, but wasn't sure because I didn't recognize any of the names of the documents or any names of any people except for Dwight Moore's. I'm assuming this may have been her providing para legal services for people involved with a lawsuit against the City. But I'm not sure and I don't know if she was paid for anything. I saw no check for any legal fees. I only saw a bill for legal services from Richard Francis to the City which I did not see anything implicating Walker on or saying she recieved money for or worked for him for.

I will have to double check my copies of the forms to make sure I'm correct. But anyone can get copies of these forms from City Hall

My recollection was Walker is proclaiming her involvement with the SOAR initiative.

Correction the majority here do not like Campbell. He sold out our town.
Years ago when he stepped down from the Council. He ran for some State seat. One third of the town voted for him, so he would finally leave.
The other two thirds didn't vote him, they didn't want him to win anymore. A failed politician.
His own home town didn't support him.
That is when he started working on Building Out Fillmore.

I'm still not sure who to vote for. But I'm now leaning more in the direction of Washburn and Walker.

904pm I'm correcting myself. I accidentally said such PACs funding a candidates campaign was considered by some a questionable practise. What I actually meant was a PAC providing advertising promoting a candidate. Please excuse my miscommunication I'm not feeling well tonight. But I wanted to tell the public what I viewed at City Hall and hope I did so accurately as I had to leaf through a huge mound of paperwork. I personally hope everyone does so as well rather than just calling a candidate and assuming they would be totally honest.

Gayle I don't think your forum is fueling divisiveness. I think some individuals may be though. But I appreciate the opportunity you availed to the public to share their views and seek the truth as the decision who to vote for takes time, consideration and research. I'm glad we have the opportunity to do so, at least until the jackboots come and take us to the re-education camp. Thank you and best wishes to you for election day.

At 11/6/06 10:57 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Interesting point the re-education trail, I can respect your statement, but do not neccessarily agree. While I understand that this forum is for Gayle and Patti what I do not understand is the spin. Thus, I am trying to obtain the full amount of information and obtaining an understanding of each candidates thought process is key to figuring out who to vote for. With that said, I too wish every candidate the best for the election. and apologize if I seem a little energetic in this process, but all I want is to know the truth, and to know who potentially will be representing me, and my family including my chilren in the years to come and the future of Fillmore.

dear Tired. The blog topics are issues of importance to Fillmore. Look at it as educational.

I guess there is a need for personal expression around here, just like the Sespe Sun and Gazette editorial pages.

Forums are widely used anymore and will probably become even more so in the future.

As I stated before, my intention was for a place for people to communicate and share information and events.

You have to ask yourself who is spreading rumors and lies in the community. As far as I can tell, without the blog, they are going to be out in the town doing the same thing, just with more secrecy. Just think, maybe everyone will get it out of their system and learn how to get along.

regarding 8:55 pm last night: I must I apologize because I do recall now that McCall did have a gift from her employer's company, Worthington, Vance, and whatever their name is on her financial disclosure, which I think is in Ventura. So that was one out of town donation. I mistakenly said she had no out of town gifts. So I believe it WAS Washburn who had only Fillmore donations.

I'm sorry Gayle if I confused that. I have been sick and I still am this morning but still must work and must vote. And yesterday I had to speed read all those financial forms at City Hall because I didn't want them to be copied for me.

I hope others would consider doing the same. Think for yourselves. Don't let gossip sway you.

Now that I think of it I'm a little uncomfortable with McCall's donation from her employer because they have a real estate appraisal department, which she happens to work for. At first I thought "no problem they're just a friend from work supporting her." That could be true. But ONCE AGIAN a real estate tie, similar to the one Barajas had, only it's out of town. Didn't stop Barajas from being elected but gave me a bad feeling.

So, though I was a bit torn between McCall and Washburn, now I believe I've completely eliminated McCall.

For those of you who think I hate land developers I don't. And I think property owners should be able to do as they wish with their own property. However I DO want to keep this town from going overboard and having an 894 unit neighborhood with multi plex units. I'd prefer they scale back any development in N. Fillmore to about 480 units.

Whether it's financially feasible at 480 units for the developer, I don't care. That's the developer's problem and their decision. Ultimately they will have to lower their prices anyhow because last time I looked the market was plummeting. Didn't you notice the lengths Griffin is going to for selling his palaces? The man is desperate. Wish I could afford to buy one. I couldn't even afford one if they were multi plex condos and apartments.

Now I have eliminated Smedley and Hernandez because of the fact Griffin paid for their advertising through FOF. Whether they gave their permission for FOF to endorse them or not is irrelevent to me. Griffin will support the candidate best for his industry as will Campbell.

I've eliminated Roberts bacause if she bungled her candidacy financial forms who knows what else she would bungle.

And now I'm eliminating McCall because of her ever so slight tie to the real estate industry.

Yes I do believe I will vote for Washburn and Walker. I was kind of leaning that direction anyhow, since they won the last candidacy forum hands down. But I was trying to keep an open mind. And I wanted to make sure Walker wasn't corrupt.

Walker's connection to SOAR doesn't put me off at all. And neither does the controvercy surrounding her. Everyone I know on City staff who is a good person has no problem getting along with Patti anyhow.

Get the Candidates who won't listen to the public and are beholden to the land development and related industries out of City Hall.

Good luck Gayle and Patti. May God's will ultimately prevail in this election. I will be praying it does.

'Tiredofit' is right on... this whole blog is nothing more, nothing less than a way for the supporters of WW to throw meaningless and mean comments out there... the funny thing about it is that when all the dust has settled, Gayle will have shot herself in the foot by participating in the blog, because the word is out there in the community that she participates in LA mudslingin'...so, if ya wanna try runnin' again, Gayle, cut this blog loose, cut Walker loose, cuz she's gonna drag you down with her, and spend some more time in FILLMORE!!!

anon 7:26, no offence but I think you're wrong. I personally was not a supporter of Gayle or Patti, but came onto this blog last week, not knowing who I was going to vote for. And I did not fully decide who to vote for until this morning after investigating financial disclosures yesterday, going to city hall, talking to staff, and then mulling things over. And I personally know each of these candidates and go to city hall just about every week. So if I was torn, I know others are, about who to vote for. You don't have to be born in Fillmore to be able to vote in Fillmore despite the INSIDERS mentality here. So who are you going to vote for? Oh yeah, let me guess, Hernandez right. Isn't she the one with the INSIDERS mentality. Figures.

Money going to a candidate must be logged and reported. Any single donation less than $100 does not require the name of the donor to be documented.
Donations of $100 to $250 dollars must be logged and reported with the donors name and address.
If a candidate accepts a donation of $250 from a donor the said candidate, if elected, can not vote on any business item related to the donor for 1 year.
The sneakiest candidate is the one who only accepts cash donations of less than $100 so as to conceal donors. The campaign can be paid for with no one knowing who funded it.
Let's just see who uses this scheme.

From the looks of things around town I'd say Walker and Washburn have outspent all other candidates in their bid for office.
Remember gifts of advertising and donated material must also be reports as well.

McCall get's my vote for many reasons. One of which is she is one of the least connected candidates to outside groups. I also believe she is very qualified for the job.
No need to comment on Linda Roberts activity or qualifications.
Washburn's thoughts seem scattered and disjointed.
Walker is too radical. She's a republican and she didn't even get the local republican womens group endorsement! That's tells me a lot about what they think.
Hernandez is a good candidate and will do a good job if elected.
Smedley gets my other vote bases upon his experience and past service.

At 11/7/06 11:56 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

I am so glad to hear Walker is a Republican. Because I am too and I voted for her. Thank you for making my day that much better.

Smedley did not get my vote. I won't even tell you what I think of him.

At least though he is transparent as far as us knowing FOF promoted him. Hernandez disclosures were the ones which did not state where she got her donations from. That is very suspicous. FOF did promote her however. Good enough reason not to vote for her. And as far as her intelligence level... well let's just say I'd prefer Cecilia Cuevas as Mayor to having her in office or Smedley.
