Overwhelmed

Well, you are all so prolific that I can't keep up with all of your comments. There are so many other issues that I want to discuss but I also want to respond to questions and comments made. I'll do my best to get caught up this weekend.

One thing I want everyone to know is that this was not created for the election. I saw the Ojai blog a couple of years ago and contacted Tyler. I hope you've had an opportunity to check out his site. They were also conducting a free computer clinic every so often where residents could bring in their equipment and have simple repairs done and get their questions answered. I thought it would be a great idea for Fillmore to have something similar so I bought the domain back in 2005.

I still have that goal for a portal on community events and activities and also getting the computer folks together for a clinic.

Then I found the Santa Paula blog. This one is run by the City Manager and I thought it was wonderful that the public could post questions and comments and Wally and Mayor Krause would keep them informed. I would love to see that come to fruition here as well.

Anyway, I had the domain for a long time but really didn't do to much with it until recently. I'm sure things will slow down after the election but I have every intention of keeping up the blog and encouraging everyone to use it to ask questions, inform, dialog, complain and even argue if need be.

I am also encouraging others who would like to post their own topics to contact me to be set up as a team member.

Tell me, how does Smedley expect to bring 1000 jobs into Fillmore?
The only business that has come in that produce jobs and stayed in the last 30yrs is Super A.
In fact Fillmore has lost jobs, Olga Factory, Carter West and the Packing House have cut jobs.
We have heard about these dreams before, when the City Council tried to have North Fillmore as the Industrial Site.
What makes it appealing to Industries to have the Industrial site on Hwy 126 instead of North Fillmore?
I see more Traffic.

Without the traffic then we will never get another nice restraunt or any other businesses. It might be nice to have jobs here in town so we do not have to drive. We have no traffic if you have been near Ventura or Santa Clarita during the day. It is a catch 22 if you don't have traffic you don't have business and if you do have traffic you don't have to drive so far to get most of the things you want.

why is roger campbell and michael mcmahan running like chickens with their heads cut off around town?
are they concerned fillmore might has some independant thinkers? citizens might be able to have a open dialogue on the council instead of the dictorial montra?
just food for thought.

I am disgusted to read Roger Campbells accusations in the Sespe Sun and they didn't put his name on it.
It is the same letter in the gazette.
So what is wrong with working?
So what you have an email, big deal. You used it and twisted it with your lies.
FOF must be so scared, they should be. Gayle and Patti are going to win.
Campbell has sold out Fillmore for years.
Campbell and Payne are linked to all the problems Santa Paula is having with Developers.
My god!! There here doing the same thing.
That is worse, Patti is just doing her job.

EEH...You read the Sespe Sun?? That rag is about as blatant as CNN don't ya think ????

At 10/28/06 6:15 PM , Blogger Gracy said...

Your both correct, I just read Campbell's letter.
The City of Fillmore lost the lawsuit, but had to make changes in the General Plan.
The Citizens of Fillmore have always questioned the Build-out of Fillmore in the Santa Clara River all along.
Could it have been because the City Council was wrong?
Obviously they were.
Why would they have had to correct the General Plan?
I question that letter now, I am sure we are not getting all the correct facts, just the dirt.

I read the letter and based on Patti
's threats and history with the city as well as her actions at most of the city council meetings, as well as with her dishonesty in her flyer. I would have to say that if it looks like a duck, if it acts like a duck, if it sounds like a duck, then most likely it is a duck. We have had a lot of facts presented to us both in this forum and outside the forum. It seems to me as though critical thinking and the ability of people to look at things with an open mind is out the door, What has Rodger the Dodger stated that is not fact, what has the sepse sun or Mrs. Uber stated that are not fact, I noticed that MRs. Uber has had no retort from Patti and her threats of lawsuits seem to no longer be in existance. I know one thing and one thing only, I am voting for Lori and McCall, Gayle no offense, but I think you are a really nice person from what I have seen in this blog, but are far to much under Patti's wing and not able to think for your self, Patti I feel is far to contraversal to get what we need done, not to mention all the tax dollars she keeps threatening to spend at city council meetings, and she keeps talking about staff living out of town, I am sorry but you own Campaign Manager is from out of town maybe that is why you are using your tactics.
As for Ken I only trust him as far as I can throw him, he is condescending and insulting to the intellegence of this community in my opinion. Thus From what I can see Lori and McCall are the only ones that have no agenda, they have spent mostly their own money and not money from PAC or special interests, they have not gotten involved in this smear tactics by the Patti Camp and the Ken and FOF camp. I believe that this is what Fillmore needs, not a bunch to childish tactics by either side to keep Fillmore in stife.

Ummm...we have lots of traffic. And, we just got El Pescador.

It would be nice to have jobs. But what jobs? The railway company has to hire people from out of town. The top City management all live out of town. Maybe there are jobs but not local workers? What is our unemployment rate?

Could you tell us what you do and where you work?

Patti & Gayle,
I am so glad to know you two.
I applaud the two of you Woman for reaching out to the Citizens of Fillmore.
In all the years I have lived here. You two are the only Candidates in the History of Fillmore who have made an extensive effort to reach out and talk to Your Constituent’s.
Never in the History of Fillmore’s Campaigning have I seen a Blog like this. Never have I seen anyone so available to talk to as you two have been in the last few months.
Patti & Gayle you have continuously reached out to the people, publishing your phone numbers and address’s. Reaching out and asking about All of Our Concerns.
You Two are the ones Fillmore needs.
Fillmore needs more like you, more Council people that will take the time to sit down and listen to the People.

Gayle your campaign manager lives out of town, why is that? As for the traffic, come on people we live in Fillmore, were we still measure travel in terms of mileage and not time as they do in LA, this is not traffic, this is a trip to the park. And Gayle, please explain how we are going to get the business and resturants without more traffic, without more growth, without more tax base. It seems as though you do not want any of this yet, you say you do, what is that about? El Pescador has basically put Margarits out of business, is that right, or can it be equated to Super Wal Mart comming to town and putting SUper A, Vons, Autozone, the local Autoparts store, the movie rental store, the clothing stores and the hardware store out of business?

Gracy, I feel sorry for you. I think that you need to get out more, Blogs are a newer thing, thus you would not have seen them in previous elections, All the candidates are available and have published their phone numbers, all the candidates ask for questions and concerns, all the candidates reach out to the public, that is how they get elected. Patti and Gayle are no different what is different is how you feel about them versus the other candidates. For this I applaud you, it sounds as though you have made your decisision and have no regrets and no indecision about it. For me I feel that same way, just for Diane and Lori. I would suggest that you call either one of them and just talk to them, they will probably shed some light for ya

So you know I have owned businesses in Fillmore for over 30 years and have employed 100's of people from Fillmore, Santa Paula, & Piru. The one thing I know about is making a profit in a difficult environment. I also know that we need higher incomes, transient(passing thru)traffic and people who work in Fillmore for our mechants to have a chance at making a decent living. If you work out of town it is easy to shop out of town. If you both live and work in town then you will be more likely to purchase in town.
When the new business park is being developed there will be many small and medium businesses that will benefit. There are at least 50 inquirys a year for medium sized industrial spaces at the Chamber and City Hall. The city has not been able to accomodate most of these businesses because there are no facilities already built for them.
If you think we have lots of traffic then you are living in a bubble. Our Hwy traffic is no where like most of the city streets in any of the larger cities in Ventura Co. and because that street traffic is high in those cities they have what a lot of us call the ammenities. Target, Mervynns, Kohls,
TGI Fridays, Olive Garden etc. So it is a trade off. Most of us have no troulbe driving 18 miles to go to those traffic areas if we want something. So make their environment not nice but don't have it here? Hypicritical? Besides I would rather go 4 blocks to eat or buy something than take an hour out of my day to go else where and have them benefit from my sales tax dollars.
Gracy: Your question of why is 126 more appealing than N. Fillmore. THREE Words : EASY TRUCK ACCESS

To whoever wrote that El Pescador is ruining Margaret's business, I doubt it. But it surely doesn't help that Rudy (Margaret's husband) is in deep trouble with the Feds. Allegedly defrauding HUD is a serious crime. It also involves their daughter so maybe the business is suffering from the stress of it all?

Why is it always that some in Fillmore always blame the new businesses for the plight of old busineses? Are we so used to medeocre that we just accept it as how it should always be? Well I hope not because we deserve better. A little competitiion really never hurt anybody. Fillmore will not see Big Box stores a la Walmart, Home Depot for a log time, our demographics just will not bring them here. Heck, Santa Paula is having a hard time retaining K-mart.

You just don't like anything nice being said about Patti & Gayle.
If it wasn't for Gayle this Blog wouldn't be here, get a life yourself.

Just wanted everyone to know that the Campaign Manager for Gayle and Patti lives in Fillmore (unless we've had an earthquake and Sespe has moved so far south it's now in Bardsdale).

For the rest of your comments, I respect and appreciate each and every candidate. It is not an easy feat running a campaign and it takes a lot of strength.

I also respect that you have researched the candidates and their positions on the issues.

I understand easy truck access; the proposed Industrial site is on Hwy 126.
The traffic will be worse than it is. It will be a direct load onto the Hwy.
1,000 more jobs = 1,000 more vehicles directly into the City of Fillmore on Hwy 126.

In my opinion, keeping North Fillmore the Industrial site can funnel traffic in at least 4 directions. Easing the direct load of Trucks & Vehicles into the City limits and directing them towards the outskirts of the City onto Hwy 126.
Less traffic in the middle of the Cities most active Hwy.

Anon 543, at least I make these conversations interesting, Gayle has had a lot to talk about with all my questions and retoric. If not for this, I wonder if we would have any answers to who she really is, call me the devils advocate, call a pain in the butt, but please understand that I am interested in Fillmore and the community that I love and cherish. I do not want to see it drowned in contraversy, and misinformation.

Anon, 933 I am not sure if she is, most thought that they supported Diane, then they come out with a flyer for Ken and Lauri, how can this be? maybe they have decided on their own who to support and WHO NOT TO SUPPORT as I am sure you have guessed who that is. But in any event, I feel that the candidates, all of them, have made their perspectives known, and have generated interesting dialogs with those that do not neccessarily support them.

How dare he write these lies.

Quote
“However, in these last few days of the campaign I have noticed that both Ms. Walker and Ms. Washburn seem to be borrowing the ideas of candidate Laurie Hernandez,"

Her ideas!!

Laurie has been hiding, not talking , she didn’t even do a Video on the Gazette as did Gayle and Patti.
She only showed up to 2 Debates.

I wish this town would bring in another big name grocery store. Super A is nothing but a store for spanish people and it always smells like rotten meat. I am fed up with Vons also, they are no longer caring certain brands of food and going mainly with safeway brand products, with all the people in this town now you can't even run into the store without it being crowded. I am now shopping after work out of town just to get products I like. To me it looks as if this town needs to start electing better people to run this town, the people serving now don't give a crap about the citizens of this town and what we want. STOP BUILDING MORE HOMES, THERE ARE ALREADY TOO MANY PEOPLE IN THIS TOWN.
